The history, motifs and structures of coverlets woven in North America from the mid-18th through the mid-19th centuries are detailed. The patterns generally have a geometric motif requiring two to four pattern blocks, forming diamond, cross, star, rose, table, and radiating designs. The most common weave structures are overshot, summer and winter, double weave, and jacquard. -- AATA
