The appropriate approach is to consider that archaeometry and archaeology are integrated from the outset in creating an incisive research design. Training and collaboration are mentioned as responses to previous discussions; expertise is not attained through cursory introductions or surveys or any specific discipline. Successful collaboration between archaeologist and archaeometrist is accomplished through communication which is conscious of its own biases. Specific premises which need to be accepted in conducting archaeological research are discussed. Likely differences in results can exist as a consequence of machine bias, observer bias, or laboratory bias; such information is not to be interpreted as a real culture pattern. The likelihood of success of archaeological research is dependent upon setting up the problem in solvable proportions. -- AATA
