Harm done to the Parthenon by sulfur trioxide pollution and tourist traffic is discussed. Marble strengthening efforts have not been successful. Iron clamps and bars were used at one time to support the marble, but the iron oxidized, expanded and cracked the stone. N.S.Ba. -- AATA
