Abstract
This work studies the possibility of protecting stones that have recently been worked by means of a superficial impregnation by acrylic resin. Two acrylic resins have been used for impregnating the surface of soft sandstone, Hydron 300 W and Elvacite 2041. Samples of worked and unworked stones have been subjected to a series of tests which were applied to reproduce some of the main factors responsible for the weathering of the stones. The use of acrylic resins to protect the surface of soft sandstone is not quite harmless and it is not recommended to use them in a general way. Nevertheless, if one considers the positive results that have been obtained, research in this field should be continued.
