Examination of the two bull mummies was expected to provide information since documentation and materials associated with the artifacts were scanty. External and internal evidence was supplied by analysis of the mummy wrappings and fragments of decoration, and radiography of the mummies. Related literature refers to preparation of bodies with botanical oils and natron. Comparison of the mummies' glass and stone eyes with those in the archaeological literature aided in attribution of the mummies. Preservation of the artifacts is descibed: vacuuming of the wrappings; cleaning, consolidation and mounting of textile fragments; examination of pigments, gold-leaf alloy, binding medium and gesso layer.
