The aim of this interdisciplinary study - carried out by conservators and experts in photogrammetry - was to measure with extreme precision using of mathematical parameters, the movements which a textile artefacts undergoes when it is displayed in different positions. The system of stereophotogrammetry was chosen as the system best suited for the measurement of movements - and hence tensions and possible damage - which may be provoked by the use of an unsuitable display position. The preliminary results confirm the wisdom of tradition and logic: the cowl displayed in the standard mode at an inclination of 30 degrees undergoes minimal deformation compared to the horizontal rest position while vertical display creates strong tensions, above all at the points which are most complicated with respect to construction and material used.
