Abstract
Cyclododecane, a volatile cyclic alkane (C12H24), can be brushed or sprayed onto the object while in the liquid state above 60°C, and cools to be solidified immediately. Cyclododecane sublimates completely from the substrates after treatment. This is why it has recently been introduced to the conservation field as a temporary consolidant. The method was applied to salvage a set of stone armour consisting of one hundred pieces. Using cyclododecane, the stone armour was restored without removing the original bronze wires, when compared with the old method. -- ICCROM
