Abstract
Biomimetic inorganic technology had been widely used in many areas, such as biomedicine, nanomaterials, thin films, porous materials and so on. The finding of a crude conservation film (calcium oxalate) that forms naturally on the surface of some historic stone buildings and monuments enables this technology to be a good candidate for stone conservation. This article points out the disadvantages of recent stone conservation materials, and sets forth the development direction for the future. It also introduces some materials synthesized in a biomimetic way and their potential use in stone conservation. -- ICCROM
