Abstract
According to investigations of fresh wood science, the main effects of dehydration stabilization of archaeological waterlogged wood were studied. Based on comparison of fresh wood and archaeological waterlogged wood, cracks and shrinkage occur on archaeological waterlogged wood as well as on fresh wood, the main cause being rupture of the hydrogen bond. To keep stabilization when archaeological waterlogged wood was dried, the cell wall must be reinforced from the outside to the inside. Reinforcement from the inside of the cell wall is especially important. -- ICCROM
