Abstract
Our research uses silica gel to treat waterlogged painted woodware. The surface of unearthed waterlogged ear-cup-lacquer and box-lacquer was wiped with 75% alcohol cotton balls, analysed with scatheless examination for their xylem by soft X-ray, punched with electric spark, then put into the dry salver in the container, at the same time, adding some colour silica gels, repeatedly replacing the silica gel, 25g every 8-10 days, until the colour of the silica gel remained unchanged and the lacquer weight stabilized. The results showed that each lacquer weight had reduced by 121g on average, and the dehydrolyzing rate was 140% for ear-cup-lacquer, and 120% for the box-lacquer. This method only needs simple equipment and is easy to operate, so it is very convenient to popularize and apply. -- ICCROM
