Abstract
The author gives short information on structure, tanning and greasing of leather; Analyses the causes of leather ageing in book binding, as well as features of materials used for their conservation. Old dry leather is softened with water, inert abrasive and hard oxidized oils. Preservation lubricant made on the basis of mineral substances is proposed.
