The natural history collection of the Francke Foundation in Halle has been preserved in such a way that even today it gives a clear picture of what a natural history collection was like in the middle of the 18th century. It is a very important monument of museum history. Colorfully painted cabinets, dating back to 1741, exemplify the character of this collection which had been founded before 1700. The harmony of the furniture and the arrangement of the collection illustates an idealized 20th-century interpretation of what the beginning of the 18th century was like. The liquid preparations of the natural history collection have been restored. Objects which had lain dry for decades had to be softened and regenerated. The new preservation jar seals satisfy modern standards although their external appearance resembles the original materials.
