Abstract
In a report on the IIC Congress in Paris on Adhesives and Consolidants (see also AATA Vol. 21, Abstract No. 1839, PARIS No. 75917) the following points were made: Adhesives used in the preservation of works of art need to have good adhesion, stability, reversibility, and compatibility. The requirements are very complex, and the effects of conservation measures on the treated objects cannot be predicted easily. For these reasons, tests which determine the effects of treatments are of extreme importance. Seventeen of the papers dealt with adhesive testing. Because only small amounts of adhesive are required to preserve art, financial support is needed for this research. -- AATA
