Study of ancient ceramics based on chemical composition measurement is a hot topic in archaeology of ceramics. This paper makes a review of different measuring techniques. Their sensitivity, precision and accuracy are quantitatively evaluated. Selection or deletion of chemical elements and samples in data processing, problems in the display of the research results and archaeological inference are discussed.
