Abstract
A shell-like substance, which was recovered in 1981 at Torihama shell-mound, Fukui prefecture, has been non-destructively investigated through microscopy, x-ray fluorescence, and x-ray diffractometry. It had been identified as a natural pearl from a fresh-water bivalve and proved to be a blister pearl attached inside the wall of a shellfish. -- AATA
