Abstract
This paper concentrates on the condition of wood prior to painting, how wood degrades, and how this affects the durability of exterior coatings. From the work reported here, it can be concluded that a paint system applied to a sound or unweathered wooden surface will have far better durability than if the wood had been exposed to normal weathering, even for a relatively short period of time. -- AATA
