Abstract
A discussion of preliminary examination includes examples of textile objects, most common types of fiber, deterioration, and scope of conservation. The examination of a textile is divided into two stages. Stage one includes dimensions, reconstruction drawings, method of construction, subsequent interventions, natural changes, weave analysis. Stage two includes analysis of the fiber, dye, mordant, and material. Factors of deterioration are mentioned. The following conservation treatments are summarized: surface cleaning with vacuum, spot-cleaning, washing, drying, preparation for backing, backing and sewing, presentation of the object. -- AATA
