Abstract
A brief history of wall painting and the history of literary references regarding the technique of wall painting is presented. Causes of deterioration which are considered are: the effects of humidity, the action of salts, air pollution, biological factors, effect of light,action of wind, subsequent interventions, and other causes of deterioration. The phases of restoration described include: preliminary examination, cleaning of the painted surface, consolidation of the painted surface, and consolidation of the plaster ground. Detachment, transport and placement onto a new support are considered. The conservation materials mentioned are synthetic resin emulsions, casein, lime, acrylic resin, polyurethane foam, epoxy and polyester resins. -- AATA
