Miss Scott described techniques useful in textile conservation which she had abstracted from other professions. A pearl-stringer's technique of glueing a strand of heavy wool to the end of a piece of thread which is threaded through a needle enables the wool to be drawn through the tubular bottom of pre-Columbian fringes. The use of bone folders came from bookbinding, as well as the use of thick damp paste to soften paste previously used on a textile. Also described are methods for rolling large textiles and for straightening fringe. Case studies of the treatment of a Chancay shirt and a Fayum portrait conclude the report. -- AATA
