Abstract
The dyeing and weaving technique of Japanese ikat, or kasuri, are explained. Plastic tape keeps the indigo dye from coloring carefully measured sections of yarn. This yarn is then fed into the loom and forms a weft pattern. A variation of this process is made by forming the pattern in the warp yarns. -- AATA
