Abstract
The history of silk fabrics and the development of silk substitutes such as rayon and nylon are briefly discussed. Increasing the luster of a color and changing its tone or shade in the weaving process by the addition of different kinds of threads is explained. Silk is available in hankies from Japan which are labelled industrial waste. Using the best available raw matenals is advised. -- AATA
