A fundamental problem in the transfer of sgraffitoes to new bases is their rough texture and plastic surface. In the method of transfer used at Zagrodno, an insulating layer and putty were applied to the face. Before transfer, the sgraffitoes were documented in silicon resin castings and x-ray photos. Contour drawings were prepared from the information provided by the casts and photos.
