The quality of Bath stone differs from quarry to quarry. The stone from the Westwood, Monk's Park, and Combe Down quarries was evaluated by the participants in the discussion-who also dealt with the rate of deterioration of Bath Stone (inversely related to the size of the carbonate crystallites in the stone) and the problems of its repair (shortage of knowledgeable masons, use of hard or over-wet mortars, removal of modern paint from the surface).
