The fragments of unrefined Roman pigments discovered at Baláca, West Hungary are very important for the study of pigments used by the Romans in Pannonia, a former Province in the Roman Empire. These fragments are the only unrefined pigments discovered to date on the present Hungarian territory of Pannonia. The morphological study of the fragments yielded interesting information on the method of manufacture of the pigments. Materials identification showed that imported pigments such as Egyptian blue and appianum (a parsley green color)as well as local pigments such as dolomite and terre noire (black earth) were used. -- AATA
