Eleven groups of textiles are catalogued in this first volume of a three volume guide to the collection of the Calico Museum (Ahmedabad, India). Each entry lists fabric type, technique of decoration, date, dimensions, and color as well as provides a longer description of the design. Among the textiles catalogued are Indian fabrics found in Egypt; 17th-18th century export fabrics; 18th to 20th century temple hangings; gold-brocaded and resist-dyed cottons; and 19th to early 20th century printed cottons in the regional styles of Rajasthan and Gujarat. The volume includes a glossary of textile terms, a bibliography, and a short discussion of the tools of the Indian cotton printer. See also 20-604. -- AATA
