Abstract
Scientific analysis of art objects is a useful tool in determining whether they are originals or imitations from later periods. Analytical methods verify whether materials or techniques used were known at the alleged time of manufacture. The phenomenon of aging can be checked to find out whether it has developed under natural conditions over long periods or if it has been produced artificially. Finally, methods of absolute dating can be applied to establish authenticity.
