Abstract
An illumination system that allows a person actually to see through a yellow varnish prior to any cleaning is described. The results of tests carried out on a test panel as well as on several paintings are presented. The system should prove particularly useful to curators and conservators for the examination of paintings before they are cleaned and perhaps as a display lighting system for paintings which, for one reason or another, cannot be cleaned. -- AATA
