The abundant use of different types of insecticides in the past to stop insect attacks in storerooms containing large quantities of Eskimo costumes and artifacts is now causing serious health and safety problems. Most of the previously used insecticides like DDT and lindane are at present no longer permitted. A description is given of the safety measurements and equipment used during the handling of the objects. The main purpose is to remove the dust particles which contain the insecticides. This treatment is followed by analysis. Also a data registration is devised to gather all the relevant information concerning the object on one form.
