Together with the normal ware descriptions of pottery, most of which is dated to 2-6th century A.D., there is in particular a description of five amphorae types and of these there are grounds for supposing that the Caesarean type 2 is from the Gaza region, probably a container for Gaza wine. A petrological report by D.P.S. Peacock is included on amphorae types 1 and 2 compared with a sample of modern fired clay from Gaza. The investigation strongly supports the hypothesis that Caesarea type 2 was made at Gaza and type 1 was made elsewhere. -- AATA
