Fragments of Roman and ancient Egyptian glass were examined by scanning and high voltage electron microscopy to observe microstructural features related to early glass making technology. Preliminary results indicate that evidence of devitrification and presence of crystalline components, which may be coloring oxides or opacifying agents, can be observed by these methods. -- AATA
