A summary of first-hand observations of the diminishing contemporary ceramic industry in small villages in Iraq, Iran, Cyprus, Lebanon, Egypt and Afghanistan is given both as an indication of the importance of such studies in relation to understanding ancient crafts as well as for an impetus for further documentation in the field. -- AATA
