Abstract
Reviews the literature and summarizes the possibilities of chemical treatment of resonance wood by organic resins and inorganic salts. Specifically it shows results of laboratory treatment of resonance wood with water glass, Ethyl silicate 40, (a commercial product which contains a partly condensed tetraethoxy silicate containing 40% silicon dioxide, produced by Chemiewerke Nunchritz, German Democratic Republic), and methylmethacrylate with subsequent polymerization. Attention is also paid to biochemical treatment of bacteria and fungi. (Abstractor's note: contains valuable information for restorers of musical instruments.)
