Cryptotermes queenslandis dealates (of both sexes) were placed in plastic boxes containing several small blocks of radiata pine with holes drilled in them. The termites self-paired, entered the holes and sealed the entrances. The development of the incipient colonies was followed by x-ray photography of the blocks after one and two days, two, three and six weeks, and then every month up to 12 months. -- AATA
