Chester Liebs' work as a preservationist in industrial archaeology is described. His philosophy of preserving enough of the past to provide for the living generation a societal context is explained. Preservation is viewed from a wide social perspective. Several specific buildings are mentioned, and the cultural genesis of these styles of architecture is explained. -- AATA
