Abstract
The development of methods in this field since the 19th century has been influenced by examination, documentation, and interpretation of results obtained by comparing the history, function and state of the building. Guidelines for restoration of structure and colors are given. The importance of color in architecture is demonstrated by classifying Austrian examples into four groups: color within the architectural sites, painted facades, brickwork constructions, and 17th century facades of Lombardian architecture around Vienna. Examples presented date from the 15th to the 19th centuries. See AATA 18-1119.
