Abstract
40 samples of metalwork from the Kahun site (12th Dynasty) were analyzed by neutron activation analysis (NAA). The aims were to determine the alloys used, and how they relate to Egyptian metallurgy in general, and to investigate the possibility of imported metal. The latter aspect was initiated because imported pottery has been recognized on the site. The artifacts were made from copper, arsenic-copper and tin-bronze. No definite conclusions could be made about imported metal. However, the presence of copper ore as a foundation deposit at Kahun suggests local manufacture. Complete analyses are tabulated. -- AATA
