Abstract
The application of red paintings on old Cretan vases of the Kamares type by a baking process was proven by the detection of protoen-statite in white paintings of the same body as a product of the thermal conversion of talc at 1000°, and by the detection of olivine as a product of a reducing phase of the ceramic baking process.
