The University of Sydney excavations at Pella in Jordan have, since 1979, produced an abundance of material remains from the past 500,000 years. This study deals with one aspect of that material -- the Middle and Late Bronze Age pottery -- and the methodology adopted to analyze and interpret it in light of known archaeological data and historical evidence from the Levant in the second millennium BC. The possibilities and demands of a computer-assisted study of the Pella pottery assemblage, and the potential of archaeometric analyses (PIXE and NAA) conducted on the ceramics, are discussed in detail. The intention is to combine these analytical and quantitative approaches with more traditional archaeological pursuits, and to place both in the appropriate cultural and historical context by evaluating the relevant, contemporary textual material (Egyptian hieroglyphic/hieriatic and cuneiform). -- AATA
