Abstract
The Cathedral of Almeria (1524-1569) is a church fortification built near the sea. Urban contamination is not a factor in stone alteration but the winds from the sea are frequent. The rising damp is considerable in some places. The only material used in the building is a dolomitic limestone with high porosity, about 45%, from a quarry located next to the town. The building was restored in 1960-70 with the same stone type; the latter has already begun to decay. The different alteration types in the building have been studied. A standardized terminology has been used, the result of an ample study of the terms in the bibliography, which will soon be published. -- AATA
