Abstract
The relation between salt crystallization and climate within six churches in Switzerland is presented. The results show that hygroscopic salts crystallize periodically according to variations of relative humidity and, to a much lesser extent, temperature. In continuously heated rooms crystallization and decay are related to variations in relative humidity caused primarily by the heating, and secondarily by natural variations of the outside climate. In unheated rooms seasonal variations of temperature also induce periodic crystallization. -- AATA
