Abstract
Discusses the construction and condition of a painted wooden relief by Jean Arp. Treatment of the object included repair of splits in the wood, consolidation of lifting paint, filling of losses and surface-cleaning. A consideration of the artist's primary symbolic concern for infinite whiteness during the time the piece was executed influenced the decision to repaint the entire sculpture rather than merely inpaint the losses. -- AATA
