Part of a special issue dealing with this legendary 500-yr-old landmark in Vienna, viz a nail-studded, curiously shaped pole. This is the middle section of a forked spruce <1(Picea abies)stem that had been lopped and probably had a sign nailed to it in lifetime. Most of the nails were driven after felling. -- AATA
