Abstract
The abrupt cessation of the Lowland Maya elite class during the 9th and early 10th centuries A.D. included three features: disappearance of the 'Stela cult,' decline of the elite class, and depopulation of the peasants. Available C14 dates are tabulated, and from bar-graphs it is concluded that the demise of the 'Stela cult' and decline of the elite coincided, but the bar-graphs do not indicate sudden depopulation. -- AATA
