Abstract
In order to protect historic building structures from the harmful effects of ground vibration induced by man-made sources this subject has carried on investigation in allowable vibration of historic building structures, calculation of response, judgment of present situation, propagation of ground vibration and etc. Through a lot of field and laboratory tests and the theoretical analysis of major man - made sources and nationally survey of representative historic buildings, the main results have been achieved as follows: (a) The fatigue limit is taken as the base of deter mining the allowable vibration of historic building structures; (b) The models are set up for calculating the dynamic characteristics of palatial hall, storeyed building, ancient pagoda, bell-tower, drum-tower, palace gate and etc; (c) The theory of wave motion is applied to judge the present condition of historic building structural stress; (d) Law of the frequency of vibration source varing with the distance in different kinds of soil layer is obtained. The above results have been adopted by the national standard - Technical Specifications for Protection of Historic Buildings against Man-made Vibration.
