Abstract
A clinical scanner was used to give nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) images of a freshly cut sample of Populus tremuloides. Annual growth rings, knots, and heartwood were clearly delineated. Kiln-dried samples of aspen and spruce did not contain sufficient water to produce an image, but clear distinctions between regions with high or low accessibility to water could be seen after saturating dried wood with water under pressure for 24 hours. -- AATA
