Abstract
This paper outlines the processes, used before 1940, in manufacturing and finishing regenerated cellulosics. The diverse and experimental nature of the treatments is described both to provide a foundation for understanding the observed degradation of manmade fibers, and to predict the consequences of conservation treatment.
