Abstract
The conventional conservation procedure for broken chimes is adhesive bonding or Stannum brazing after the orthopedic procedures. This method can recovery the shape of chimes, but can not recovery their acoustics characteristics. This paper introduced the method of laser welding used in conservation of the broken chimes. By the detailed study of the orthopedic procedures, welding process and filler materials, etc., the broken chimes unearthed from Jiu-Lian-Dun Chu tombs in the warring states period are well recovered both in morphological and acoustic characteristics. This conservation method is innovative for the recovery of morphological and acoustic characteristics of antique metallic musical instruments.
