Abstract
The author proposes a system of classification of swords from the La Téne cultural periods according to a strictly metallurgical system, dividing them into two main classes, one of soft iron and the other of carburized steel. The latter is subdivided according to methods or their combination to produce hardness. One of these divisions may represent a link between the Celtic and the pattem-welded sword. There is also a table relating the La Téne culture phases of Déchelette with Piggott's classification system for Celtic swords of British provenience. -- AATA
