The treatment of several l7th-century oil paintings on canvas (214 x 140 cm) is described. The paintings were in bad condition due to improper storage. There seemed to be little chance of saving them. The author (a Russian restorer from Leningrad) has succeeded in restoring these paintings and describes his work: disinfection, fixing the flaking paint, flattening, relining, and cleaning. Pentachlor sodium phenolate was used as a disinfectant. For fixing and relining, the traditional Russian fish glue with honey was used. -- AATA
