Abstract
The author describes a modern industry started in the 1920's in the village of Lupupa Ngye in eastern Kasai Province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Baskets are made for sale by a combination of weaving and sewing; the raffia is dyed with swamp mud and with bark extracts. The time involved in production, the names for various designs, etc., are included. -- AATA
